• Holiday Traditions and Additions

Posted in Blog by Brooke Trout

Hard to believe the holiday season is already upon us. Time to break out the Vince Guaraldi and enjoy spiced apple cider, hot buttered rum, peppermint and gingerbread lattes, whilst decorating the holiday tree and writing up greeting cards… though maybe not all at once! One of Brooke’s favorite annual traditions is Nette Radio’s annual Nette For Vets fundraiser and book drive at The Talking Stick, 1411 Lincoln Blvd Venice, CA 90291. It’s happening this Friday, November 8th from 7 to 11 p.m. All proceeds benefit the VA Hospital in West Los Angeles and go towards the purchase of books. Featuring performances by Bhavna Reddy, The Conlons, Patsy Moore, Lisa Nemzo and Clare Means. You have one of two ways to contribute to the cause! An eight dollar admission will act as your donation or waive that entirely by bringing out a soft cover book donation! All ages show. Official Web Site for more details: www.netteradio.com. Please note: This event is broadcast live on UStream.TV at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/netteradio. NetteRadio will attempt to broadcast the show live but due to streaming issues at The Talking Stick it may not happen. Archives will be available after the event. Brooke will be helping at the door so stop by to say hello!

Also up for Brill is our holiday themed showcase for A Very Artful Holiday Faire presented by the San Fernando Valley Arts Council on November 16th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at El Rancho Cordillera del Norte, 9015 Wilbur (at Nordhoff), Northridge, CA. The event features handmade Art, Gifts and baked goods to benefit the arts of the San Fernando Valley.  It’s the perfect time for all you sugar plum fairies to get into shopping mode and the San Fernando Valley Arts Council has just the gifts you are looking for! You’ll discover a wide range of unique handmade gifts and art…jewelry, glass, wood, mosaic tiled frames & mirrors, hand-knitted items, homemade baked goods, paintings, photography, ceramics and more. The La Frite gourmet food truck will offer tasty cuisine and we’ll have shaved ice for the kids. Take this opportunity to gather together with friends and enjoy a little pre-holiday fun. Chanukah comes early this year (starts on Thanksgiving), so “wow” your family and friends with one of a kind art and gifts. There will be plenty of parking available on-site and you’ll marvel at how beautiful the Rancho is…another hidden gem in the Valley. The faire will take place inside the Mission Theatre.

Special thanks again to Mary Paterson and Juliana Martinez for all their incredible help pulling together this year’s Dia de los Muertos festival for Main Street Canoga Park and the Canoga Park Improvement Association.  Brooke participated again this year as an artist for “Las Almas De Oro,” a Dia De Los Muertos art exhibition sponsored by the San Fernando Valley Arts Council at The Madrid Theatre in Canoga Park.
