The Age Of Pisces? The Sign of Red Fish?
Posted in Blog by Brooke Trout
This is the dawning of the age of Pisces? The Red Herring are excited to start out May with two awesome shows! This Saturday, May 7th you are invited to join us for the third annual Domestock! Get in touch with all your hippie emotions once again at The Dome Away From Home in the San Gabriel mountains (The Dome, 2870 Tanoble Drive, Altadena, CA.) for live music from multiple bands all day and night. This is a potluck style event, so bring something to eat and/or drink and bring enough to share. Beverages will be needed in plenty. The grill will be fired up and ready, so feel free to bring uncooked foods to barbecue. Bring a blanket and maybe a beach chair to claim a comfy spot. Bring a hat for the sun, and pray for good weather! Featuring Darren Cooper & Friends, Lee the Duke, The Droppers, Single by RobDob, Dirty Dave Osti and The Red Herring at 8:45 p.m. Outdoor activities will include a bounce house, tug of war, horse shoes, random flying beach balls, face/body painting, mural creation and beer pong.
In the early 21st century, many musicians and singer songwriters honed their trade at the open mic hosted by Gayle’s Perks Coffee Shop in North Hills, a community in the San Fernando Valley. ASCAP eventually put the kibosh on this phenomenal gathering, but its participants have moved on against the odds. On May 12th, experience some of the notable projects these artists have pursued in the times beyond beloved Gayle’s Perks. Brooke Trout and Big Dave are BIG FISH, performing at La Brie’s Lounge (formerly The Scene Bar), 806 E Colorado St., Glendale, CA for this “Gayle’s Perks Reunion Show” entitled, “Revenge of the Perkies” presented by Subculture Girl Productions. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to find all these projects gathered together in one place for your enjoyment!
This is also a band reunion of sorts for Brooke Trout, as the night will feature performances from Alex & Alex (with Alex Schmauss formerly of Brooke Trout & The Treble Hooks), Richard Marchetta (formerly of Brooke Trout & The Anchormen), Grit (with Stu Dill formerly of Brooke Trout & The Treble Hooks), the amazing slide blues guitarist Brian Chan and the one and only Tom Washington & His Blue Lightning Review. Tom was the most dedicated Perks attendee of all. He would ride his bicycle to the event every week with a guitar strapped to his back. Brooke met Tom when she first moved to Northridge to attend CSUN in 2002 at yet another now defunct open mic coffee house! With simply three chords and the truth, Tom’s reverence for all things musically American, from the Blues to Folk to Rock n Roll, will shine through in his earnest performance.
And now for the updates for all you loyal readers! Yes we did…Fish! We made it not only into the top ten but the final four in the Eventful.com contest to play The Roxy last month. We were number 3 in the rankings out of 75 bands with well over 600 votes! We have so many good people to thank across the country including Women’s Radio, Dockers, G4 and a special shout out to Alison, Justin, Brian, Darlene, Claudia, Rita, and everyone else who reposted our announcement online! We are so grateful to the generous support of Docker’s since Big Dave won a Docker’s Facebook Man Grant contest in February. We just wrapped up submitting our video footage for the promotion that Docker’s will be editing together for an official commercial about Dave’s win that will include a look at our new duds, gear, and recent Red Herring shows. We will post an announcement once this goes live!
We are in the final mixing stage of our EP release for The Red Herring thanks to Dan Hughley (Crazyville Productions.) Stay tuned for the pending release, the purchase of which will help support the development of our full length album to be released next year. We debuted our latest new song “Arc of the Covenant, aka Melt Your Face Off!” to great success at our Roxy show. You can watch our performance of the song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6hIbeDODfc
A special thank you to all who attended the annual Festival of Childhood! Brooke drew her latest chalk drawing “The Frog Prince” which you can check out in the Brooke’s Art album on her facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/people/Brooke-Trout/588708645. Brooke is excited to announce that she has been commissioned by The City of Fontana to do her next chalk drawing for the Sounds From The Islands event at the Fontana Park Aquatic Center (15610 Summit Avenue, Fontana, CA 92336) on June 25th. What a great web log. I spend hours on the net reading blogs, about tons of various subjects. I have to first of all give praise to whoever created your theme and second of all to you for writing what i can only describe as an fabulous article. I honestly believe there is a skill to writing articles that only very few posses and honestly you got it. The combining of demonstrative and upper-class content is by all odds super rare with the astronomic amount of blogs on the cyberspace.
Just what the dcootr ordered, thankity you!
