The Red Herring will be playing a series of sets this Thursday the 21st at 7 p.m. inside The Rummage Rat thrift store as part of Canoga Park’s Centennial Celebration Artrageous Artwalk event! The Rummage Rat is located at 7139 Owensmouth Ave, Canoga Park, CA 91303; corner of Sherman Way & Owensmouth. This “Third Thursday” summer art and music street festival in Canoga Park is being held from 6 to 10 p.m. The event features food trucks, street vendors, free photo ops and activities from face painting to hula hooping and art work by local artisans for sale at surrounding galleries! Check out www.canogapark100.com or www.canogaparkcal.com to pick up a street festival map including points of interest – previous walks have included incentives like a free beer or wine at stop locations!

Earlier this year Big Dave won a two thousand dollar valued prize in musical gear for The Red Herring thanks to the Docker’s Man Grant contest. Now Dave has won an even manlier man grant in tickets to the world famous Playboy Mansion thanks to LA Weekly. He has written an article which is tentatively scheduled to be published by LA Weekly. We have included a teaser excerpt on our website here: http://theredherringmusic.tumblr.com/post/7823586060/did-that-really-happen

We have completed the mixing process of our EP release thanks to Dan Hughley (Crazyville Productions.) Stay tuned for the pending release and launch of our online fundraising campaign to help support the production of our full length album to be released next year. We are full blast into our production schedule working weekly songwriting sessions and now refining nine songs in the shop for the album. We debuted our latest new song “Terminal” to great success at our birthday show. That’s right! The Red Herring is now a year old! The Red Herring was born on the Fourth of July a year ago when we talked Vincent into using his Rock Band drum kit to play a round of Big Dave and Brooke Trout originals. Three months later we had our first original Red Herring song “Albert” about the first monkey to successfully orbit in space (only to crash land) and were playing a battle of the bands car show! You can watch our performance for our birthday celebration in several great videos taken courtesy of Leah O’Donnell here: http://youtu.be/Cu_2mdlWGAk

Thank you to all who came out to support the Sounds From The Islands event at the Fontana Park Aquatic Center on June 25th. Brooke drew her latest chalk drawing “K-FISH FM” which you can check out in her “Brooke’s Art” album on her facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.437106733645.221401.588708645&type=1#!/photo.php?fbid=10150330456768646&set=a.437106733645.221401.588708645&type=1&theater
