Montana VS Montana Final Four Showdown!
Posted in Blog by Brooke Trout
Today is our LAST DAY to get in the final four in the Eventful.com contest to play a battle of the bands show at The Roxy and we are just 25 votes away! Please demand The Red Herring at www.eventful.com/roxy. We are up against 73 other bands and have achieved 400 votes thanks to your grass roots efforts of spreading along the word to everyone you know to keep those votes coming in!
For updates on our ranking and pending show details please check out our official Red Herring Facebook fan page and Red Herring Roxy contest event page. Thank you for supporting The Red Herring! We were so thrilled to have reached the top ten and just a few days ago we made in into the final four! We have so many good people to thank including Women’s Radio, Dockers, G4 and a special shout out to Alison, Justin, Brian, Darlene, Claudia, Rita, and everyone else who reposted our announcement online! We were so excited to discover that our efforts resulted in a special plug by Eventful.com where we were listed on their hottest demands page. Montana raised Brooke Trout was particularly tickled to be higher in the rankings than Hannah Montana. Big Dave was quick to point out that The Red Herring is not as hot as Yanni. Trout speculated that perhaps if the band’s name was changed to The Red Herring & John Tesh that rating would be quickly challenged.
Big Dave surprised Brooke Trout for a super sweet spectacular Valentine’s Day present last month by winning a Docker’s Facebook Man Grant contest. We finally got the first of our gear and gown goodies just in time for Brooke’s birthday show at The Viper Room. Brooke had a magnetic field day with her long desired Ebow. Cracking it out she found herself entranced for a solid hour and a half straight of experimentation before her numb legs screamed out for her to get up and stretch! One of Brooke’s favorite songs is Big Country’s “In A Big Country” which utlizes the ebow. She was surprised by the Ebow’s touch sensitivity; sounds like a cello, works a little like a violin. Some fun, fun, fun songwriting adventures are ahead!
For those of you unaware of what an Ebow is, Brooke wrote an album review for Bitchin Entertainment where she researched and became fascinated with this gadget. You can read this article here: http://www.bitchinentertainment.com/cdreviews/nectarphonic.html
We managed to record all of our tracks for The Red Herring EP and are moving into the mixing stage with Dan Hughley (Crazyville Productions.) Stay tuned for the pending release, the purchase of which will help support the development of our full length album to be released next year. We are also so happy to have made a new friend through the online grapevine! A big thank you to Kathleen and everyone at 4th Street Recording for inviting Brooke Trout & Big Dave out to the annual Santa Monica Buy Local Expo. We had so much fun busking on the street, drinking margaritas and selling our wares. We are looking forward to recording the rest of The Red Herring album at this historic studio!
We also wanted to send a special shout out to Brooke’s friend Kate in Seattle. Kate’s March of Dimes March for Babies walk is happening at the end of the month. She has been doing this event every year with her daughter and it has become something of a tradition. They are currently at $350 in funds raised with a total goal of 1K. As a fellow former preemie (or in her case, small fry at the hatchery) Brooke Trout is in full support of their research and feels this is a valuable cause. http://www.marchforbabies.org/s_team_page.asp?seid=1451060
